I suggest making an account and using it for a couple days to get a good feel and see how you like it. Check it out and play around with the demo. Pasting from unusual formats doesn't get formatted as cleanly as Workflowy Gotta unindent it, move it, then indent it again. You can't move sub-bullets up/down if where you're trying to move it to isn't on the same level. **this is how it appears when you're focused on it** They're working on WYSIWYG formatting (like in Word) so hopefully that comes soon. There's no underlining (wat), and bold and italic is shown with markup syntax when your cursor is on that bullet. There's also a forum and blog where they post weekly updates.Īlright, that's the good stuff. They add new things and let people vote on what they want. On the other hand, Dynalist has a public roadmap with their plans and what they're currently working on. You need money to hire someone, which they hope to do this year to help with development. That's still their focus today, and that's okay. The last time Workflowy was updated was over 2 years ago the founder also acknowledged their slow development and focus on growth/revenue at the time. To be able to view your list as a mind map would be fantastic. I like mind maps, but infinitely zoomable/expandable lists are easier to work with and are basically mind maps in a list format. MIND MAPS (pro) – okay, it's only experimental right now (instructions), but I had to mention it because I think it's a dope feature to look forward to. You can search on the same page/list or everywhere, search for files, save searches.Ĭross-linking – for linking to another bullet or page, fast and convenientĪppearance/theme/font stuff – I changed things to make it look like Workflowy lolĪutomatic backups to Dropbox/Google Drive (pro) – manual backup is also more convenient than in Workflowy Search – SUPER FAST! searching in Workflowy can lag for me. Images – displayed inline or on hover without needing a browser extension! Uses markdown syntax, but you can paste images which automatically get uploaded and is formatted in markdown for youĭue dates – there's also a date and time picker to make this easier also syncs to Google calendar (pro) Pages and folders – thought I'd still stick to one page but actually pretty useful They make doing things easier and more convenient. It feels and functions similar to Workflowy, with two main differences in my opinion:ġ) Lots of useful optional features and settings that don't compromise simplicity. If you already use it and are perfectly happy with what it currently offers, awesome! There's probably no reason to look elsewhere.īut if you wished there was a little bit more (and from what I read, that's why this was created), there's Dynalist. I've been using Workflowy for a few years and have gotten ~30 people to use it as well. Most options I looked into were too complicated, so the only one I've used and can make a comparison to is Workflowy. It's still relatively new compared to other outliners. I'm super impressed so far and wanted to share it since I had never heard of it before (and assume most of you haven't either), even though it's been out since 2015. There is no direct print and therefore doesn’t have OCR by default (even without Dark Mode on) but it was easy enough to OCR the document with Acrobat.I discovered Dynalist a few days ago and have been testing it out.In Dark mode when using Ctrl+P to Print as PDF doesn’t allow for Adobe Acrobat to OCR text.Easy to Search All Documents at Once - Ctrl/Cmd + Enter/Return.Indenting under a check box creates checkbox automatically.Lines can be highlighted to different colors.Hover over image to view or Images can be viewed inline.Link to Other Dynalist Documents Test List - Uses Markdown.List Density: Comfortable, Cozy, Compact.Pro features don’t having anything that I need.As you will read, when I started this I didn’t think I needed the subscription and still don’t find it a necessity, but with it being half off, I purchased it to support development. This coupon will make the cost less for a Dynalist subscription for one year than a Workflowy subscription. The code will be valid until January 4, 2019, 11:59 P.M. Below I go into the specifics of my experience with each service’s features.įYI, if you are thinking about using Dynalist, they are having a sale for Dynalist Pro for 50% off with coupon code: XMAS18. I don’t think you can get away without the paid account which is about half of the cost of Dynalist. Workflowy is an excellent product for minimalist needs, but there are limits to how many items you can add to the free account, and after an intensive week of software comparison at work, I hit them. If you don’t need the extra features, then you don’t need to use them. It has far more features, while still giving you the ability to keep it simple. In my opinion, Dynalist is the better product.
